MAP 4 Rare & Unique Ecosystems

Naturally Rare Ecosystems are included in the Protected Landscape Network. These rare and unique areas have been determined by analyzing data sets for vegetation, enduring features, topography and ecological sensitivity.

Rare ecosystems provide important, and often unique biological diversity that increases ecological resilience, both in their immediate proximity and for Read Island as a whole.

•This map is a coarse reflection of the naturally rare ecosystems that exist on Read Island. It appears fraught with inaccuracies, but this is the information available, and what the government uses.

This map needs to be updated with local community knowledge!
